Biocatalytic oxidative kinetic resolution of (±)-4-(chlorophenyl)phenylmethanol by Nocardia corallina B-276 Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Ramírez,Mario A.; Pérez,Herminia I.; Manjarrez,Norberto; Solís,Aida; Luna,Héctor; Cassani,Julia.
Chiral diarylmethanols are versatile building blocks for the preparation of biologically active substances, but they are difficult to obtain in enantiopure form. We used Nocardia corallina B-276 for the oxidative kinetic resolution of (±)-4-(chlorophenyl)phenylmethanol, 1. Two experimental methods were used: 1) Suspension of cells in a phosphate buffer solution and 2) Cells in the culture media, in a 3-L bioreactor. After 36 hrs using the first method, the ketone/alcohol ratio was 56/44 and the unoxidized alcohol had an enantiomeric ratio of 93/7, predominating the R-alcohol.

Development of a Mass Sensitive Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM)-Based DNA Biosensor Using a 50 MHz Electronic Oscillator Circuit ArchiMer
Garcia-martinez, Gonzalo; Alonso Bustabad, Enrique; Perrot, Hubert; Gabrielli, Claude; Bucur, Bogdan; Lazerges, Mathieu; Rose, Daniel; Rodriguez-pardo, Loreto; Farina, Jose; Compere, Chantal; Arnau Vives, Antonio.
This work deals with the design of a high sensitivity DNA sequence detector using a 50 MHz quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) electronic oscillator circuit. The oscillator circuitry is based on Miller topology, which is able to work in damping media. Calibration and experimental study of frequency noise are carried out, finding that the designed sensor has a resolution of 7.1 ng/cm(2) in dynamic conditions (with circulation of liquid). Then the oscillator is proved as DNA biosensor. Results show that the system is able to detect the presence of complementary target DNAs in a solution with high selectivity and sensitivity. DNA target concentrations higher of 50 ng/mL can be detected.

Estimated reservoir ages of the Black Sea since the last glacial ArchiMer
Kwiecien, O.; Arz, H. W.; Lamy, F.; Wulf, S.; Bahr, A.; Roehl, U.; Haug, G. H..
Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dating of ostracod and gastropod shells from the southwestern Black Sea cores combined with tephrochronology provides the basis for studying reservoir age changes in the late-glacial Black Sea. The comparison of our data with records from the northwestern Black Sea shows that an apparent reservoir age of similar to 1450 C-14 yr found in the glacial is characteristic of a homogenized water column. This apparent reservoir age is most likely due to the hardwater effect. Though data indicate that a reservoir age of similar to 1450 C-14 yr may have persisted until the Bolling-Allerod warm period, a comparison with the GISP2 ice-core record suggests a gradual reduction of the reservoir age to similar to 1000 C-14...

Improved purification process of β- and α-trypsin isoforms by ion-exchange chromatography BABT
Santos,Alexandre Martins Costa; Oliveira,Jamil Silvano de; Bittar,Eustáquio Resende; Silva,Anderson Lourenço da; Guia,Marcos Luiz dos Mares; Bemquerer,Marcelo Porto; Santoro,Marcelo Matos.
The purpose of this work was to improve the separation and yield of pure β- and α-trypsin isoforms by ion-exchange chromatography and to characterize some physical-chemical properties of these isoforms. Purification of trypsin isoforms was performed by ion-exchange chromatography in 0.1 mol/L tris-HC buffer, pH 7.10 at 4ºC. The sample loading, salt concentration, flow rate and pH of mobile phase were varied to determine their effects on the resolution of the separation. The resolution was optimized mainly between β- and α-trypsin. Pure isoforms were obtained by chromatographying 100 mg of commercial trypsin during seven days, yielding 51 mg of high purity β-trypsin and 13 mg of α-trypsin partially pure, with small amounts of contaminating of ψ-trypsin....

Mechanisms in anti-inflammation and resolution: the role of lipoxins and aspirin-triggered lipoxins BJMBR
Fierro,I.M.; Serhan,C.N..
Multicellular host responses to infection, injury or inflammatory stimuli lead to the formation of a broad range of chemical mediators by the host. The integrated response of the host is essential to health and disease; thus it is important to achieve a more complete understanding of the molecular and cellular events governing the formation and actions of endogenous mediators of resolution that appear to control the duration of inflammation. Lipoxins are trihydroxytetraene-containing lipid mediators that can be formed during cell-cell interactions and are predominantly counterregulators of some well-known mediators of inflammation. Since this circuit of lipoxin formation and action appears to be of physiological relevance for the resolution of...

Monitoring Marine Habitats With Photogrammetry: A Cost-Effective, Accurate, Precise and High-Resolution Reconstruction Method ArchiMer
Marre, Guilhem; Holon, Florian; Luque, Sandra; Boissery, Pierre; Deter, Julie.
Underwater photogrammetry has been increasingly used to study and monitor the three-dimensional characteristics of marine habitats, despite a lack of knowledge on the quality and reliability of the reconstructions. More particularly, little attention has been paid to exploring and estimating the relative contribution of multiple acquisition parameters on the model resolution (distance between neighbor vertices), accuracy (closeness to true positions/measures) and precision (variability of positions/measures). On the other hand, some studies used expensive or cumbersome camera systems that can restrict the number of users of this technology for the monitoring of marine habitats. This study aimed at developing a simple and cost-effective protocol able to...

Resolving and Parameterising the Ocean Mesoscale in Earth System Models ArchiMer
Hewitt, Helene T.; Roberts, Malcolm; Mathiot, Pierre; Biastoch, Arne; Blockley, Ed; Chassignet, Eric P.; Fox-kemper, Baylor; Hyder, Pat; Marshall, David P.; Popova, Ekaterina; Treguier, Anne-marie; Zanna, Laure; Yool, Andrew; Yu, Yongqiang; Beadling, Rebecca; Bell, Mike; Kuhlbrodt, Till; Arsouze, Thomas; Bellucci, Alessio; Castruccio, Fred; Gan, Bolan; Putrasahan, Dian; Roberts, Christopher D.; Van Roekel, Luke; Zhang, Qiuying.
Purpose of Review Assessment of the impact of ocean resolution in Earth System models on the mean state, variability, and future projections and discussion of prospects for improved parameterisations to represent the ocean mesoscale. Recent Findings The majority of centres participating in CMIP6 employ ocean components with resolutions of about 1 degree in their full Earth System models (eddy-parameterising models). In contrast, there are also models submitted to CMIP6 (both DECK and HighResMIP) that employ ocean components of approximately 1/4 degree and 1/10 degree (eddy-present and eddy-rich models). Evidence to date suggests that whether the ocean mesoscale is explicitly represented or parameterised affects not only the mean state of the ocean but also...
